It's Monday morning and my living room looks like this....

...and I don't even care!

The weekend is over and I am going to need the entire day to recover.

Yes...I know I haven't posted in a long time but I just got my computer back on Friday.  The Internet card shot craps so now we have and external one...but I'm not complaining because the computer is WAY faster now!

This weekend was crazy, but I will tell you what else is going on first:

The biggest news is they started on the deck.  Last week, they dug the holes, had them inspected and poured the concrete.  They (hopefully) are going to start on the actual deck tomorrow, weather permitting.  Guess what the weather forecast is around here for the next week?  RAIN!!!  (just our luck) They claim it will only take 3-4 days to complete so we're still keeping our fingers crossed that it's finished for Naomi's party!

Something is wrong with my knee.  The knee I DID NOT have surgery on in high school.  I don't know what I did to it, but I can't bend it all the way.  When I try, it feels like something is grinding around in there and it makes me sick to my stomach.  Sometimes I forget, because it doesn't hurt all the time.  I will step over a toy or walk down a step and it almost brings me down to the ground, the pain is so bad!.  I saw an orthopedic, he took x-rays and gave me prescription naproxen.  He said  if it's not better in 6 days to come in for an MRI.  I think I might be calling soon.  I can't handle this.

We are feeling the pressure to get things ready for Naomi's party now.  It's less than 2 weeks away and I still have to order the cake, buy a few more decorations, get goody bags for the kids that will be here, and buy Naomi her present from us.  What on Earth do you get a 1 year old girl who has a big sister who got a million toys for her first birthday that are stored in boxes in the basement?

I am excited about getting her first birthday pictures done next week.  I have some cute props and a super cute shirt that I ordered from Etsy.com. Can't wait!!!

Gerry and I have TWO nights out this week -sans kids!  You heard me ...TWO!  Wednesday night we are going to our first Cardinal's game of the season (we're taking the girls to my mom's house) and Friday night we are going to watch a play of the entire Star Wars Trilogy done in one hour put on by St. Louis Shakespeare's Magic Smoking Monkey Theatre.  Gerry is a huge Star Wars fan so this should be fun! My brother is coming to our house to watch the girls.  I love when they come to our house!  So convenient!

Now, let me tell you about this weekend!  It was fast and furious! Saturday we threw a surprise "sprinkle" for my sister-in-law, Laura. Her and Bobb have a daughter, Olivia, who will be 2 in August.  Everything they had from her was pink.  Laura is having the first baby boy of the family in June so I thought this would be a great opportunity to hook them up with some much needed "boy stuff".  We rented a small room at a restaurant and decorated it with fun sports stuff, which is their nursery theme. Our immediate families and some of their very close friends joined us.  We ate lunch and all the kids ran around and played. It was a lot of fun!  They got some really cool stuff...lots and lots of BLUE!

I was so busy getting food ready that I was unable to get any pics of my special party.

Naomi is 11 Months Old!!!

Okay...seriously! This time I mean it when I say that time is moving by too quickly and my little sugar is growing up way too fast!  She turned 11 months on April 8th.  In one month she will be 1 year.  Soon, she will be walking running everywhere.  I am already getting sad thinking about all of her "baby-ness" that I will miss.

I know her top front teeth are going to come in any day so I find myself taking as many pictures of her as I can before they make their appearance.  Kids don't look like babies anymore once those top teeth come in.

Naomi is doing some funny things these days:

  • She dances all the time.
  • She claps when she sees people on TV clapping.
  • She's "cruising" around all the furniture and all the kitchen cabinets.
  • She does hand motions to silly songs (Itsy Bitsy Spider and Wheels on the Bus are 2 of her faves)
  • She points to things she knows she's not supposed to touch and shakes her finger and says "No, no!" (The TV remote, for example)
  • She LOVES a particular, life-like, baby doll, the kind that blinks.  She laughs like crazy when I tip the doll's head back and forth to make her blink fast.
  • She loves the baby doll's hands and examines them carefully for long periods of time.
  • She plays peek-a-boo with her covers when I cover her up at night.  I think she does it just so I stay in the room a little longer.
  • She waves to the monkey and the alligator in the painting that hangs on her wall.
  • She waves to the framed pictures of Maria and of herself hanging in our hallway - EVERY time we walk past them. (which is a lot)
  • She says hi to our dog "Hi Ded" (Our dog's name is Devon, so she's trying) This is so cute...I need to get a video of it.
Unfortunately, Naomi got sick for the first time with a goofy virus this month.  When she went to the doctor for that, she weighed 18 pounds 5 ounces.  We'll see next month how tall she is.  Speaking of weight gain, Naomi's dietitian came for the last time a few weeks ago.  Everyone is on the same page and feels confident that Naomi is eating well and is healthy and strong! She still refuses the bottle occasionally, but I don't worry about it that much anymore.  I stopped keeping a log of how many ounces she gets, as well.  It was hard the first few days, and I even still kept track in my head.  But now I have no idea how many ounces she's getting....and I'm okay with that.  I know she eats a ton in the high chair.  I think this container of formula I just opened will probably be the last one we buy for Naomi.  Organic whole milk is in her near future!

Just one short month from now I will be posting pics of Naomi's first birthday.  Preparations for the big event are in full swing.  Invitations have gone out and a birthday outfit has been purchased.  (Now I need to find something to wear!)

Now if only we can get that deck built.....

Picture Post - Easter 2010

Dyeing Easter eggs

Hailey with her egg.

Maria and Olivia digging into their baskets.  Of course Maria found the chocolate right away! That's my girl!

Naomi joined the fun after her nap.  (Poor baby was just not feeling good!)

Maria found her basket on Easter morning.

Now it was time to find the eggs.

He hid one in the gutter??? Silly Easter bunny!

Sidewalk chalk is always fun!

Naomi finally woke up to check out her basket.

She got some cool blocks.
Pretty girls!

The Easter Bunny even made it to our family celebration!

Easter Eggs and an Enterovirus

Wow...I haven't posted in a while but we've had one sick little girl here.  Yes...Naomi spent her first Easter with a fever and feeling yucky!

Let me start with the bad part of the weekend:

I guess it started Thursday night.  She woke up around 10:00 pm crying and acting really weird.  I think she was half asleep, but she wasn't really moving her arms.  She wasn't making eye contact with Gerry or me.  I started to get really worried, but I couldn't tell if something was wrong or if she was out of it because she was so exhausted.  She finally snapped out of it after about 10 minutes and started crawling around.  She stopped crying and I felt comfortable enough to put her back to sleep.  She woke up one other time that night, but seemed to be fine in the morning.  Friday was a busy day for us.  We did a lot of running around and Naomi acted like she felt fine.

She woke up around 3:30 am with a fever of 100.3.  I gave her some Tylenol and tried to go back to sleep.  She was restless from 4:00 am until 6:30 am.  I called the exchange to try to figure out what to do.  We were expecting a house full of people (one of them being a toddler and one of them pregnant) around 10:00 am for brunch and I needed to know if I should cancel or not.  Of course, the doctor's office isn't open on Saturdays, especially on a holiday weekend.  She wasn't bad enough for me to take her to the ER, so I had no other choice but to take her to an Urgent Care Clinic.I would have bet a lot of money that she had an ear infection, but the doc said ears looked great.  "Probably just the tail end of a virus" he said.  I asked if I should cancel our brunch and he said no.

Tail end.  Yeah right.

Naomi spent the next few days running a high fever, then she would feel fine and act totally normal.  Night time was the worst.  (isn't it always?) She wouldn't sleep more than 45 minutes at a time. Easter morning, she fell asleep around 5 am and slept until 10:00 am.  No fever most of the day so we decided to take her to my brother's house for a little while.  Gerry drove separate in case she got fussy and wanted to come home.

Monday morning I took her to the doctor.  Again, I swore it was an ear infection that the Urgent Care doctor missed.  Naomi had been digging in her ears so that had to be it.  Nope.  Ears looked great.  The doctor told me it was an enterovirus.  She said there's one going around in infants where the main symptom has been a high fever.  She said it's typically lasting 5 days in the patients she has been seeing andwe're just going to have to ride it out.

Naomi has slept better the past 2 nights.  She's been taking really long naps and hasn't been eating very well.  Yesterday she was fever free without meds but developed a rash around her hairline, behind her ears, the back of her neck, her chest and her diaper area. I called the doctor yesterday and she said the rash kind of signifies the end of the virus.  (Thank God!)

Even though she doesn't have a fever, Naomi is still very crabby and clingy.  I'm really hoping this goes away soon.  I feel so terrible for her.

And now for the good part:

Aside from Naomi being sick, Gerry and I had an enjoyable weekend with our families and we got to spend some extra quality time with Maria since Naomi was sleeping so much.

Brunch with Gerry's family on Saturday turned out really well.  Maria and Naomi each got a goody bag from Bobb and Laura with bubbles, sidewalk chalk, candy, and fruit puffs.  They also each received a swimming suit, a book and a few fun egg games from their Pa Pa and Grandma G.

Maria was excited to find that the Easter bunny left her a basket full of fun things on Sunday morning.  He also hid our eggs outside, so after breakfast Maria had to go and find them!  We spent the rest of the morning doing sidewalk chalk and bubbles since it was so nice outside.

When Naomi finally woke up, she got to see what the Easter Bunny put in her basket!  Later that day, we got all dressed up and headed over to my brother's house for dinner.

Dinner was great and there were kids everywhere.  Maria was having a blast running around with everyone!  The girl's got so many nice gifts from so many people!  I couldn't even keep track of everything! The Easter Bunny even showed up for a little while to give all the kids a lolli pop!

Naomi did really well for a while, then Gerry took her home early.  She was starting to get really fussy.  Maria and I stayed and she played with Kelly's niece and nephew.  Th three of them just ran and ran and ran outside for along time.  Maria was wiped out when we got home!

Overall, the weekend was good, all things considered! We found out yesterday that our permit is ready for the deck and they should be starting in the next week or so.  Weather permitting, we may just get it finished before Naomi's party. (fingers crossed)

Stay tuned! Pics and video to come!

Friday Night Leftovers

It's time for Friday Night Leftovers again!  Play along with Danifred!

  • Gerry is off today!  We have so much to do before the weekend (grocery shop, get Maria Easter shoes, work outside, clean the house before tomorrow morning) and yet here I am sitting on the computer blogging!  Priorities!
  • We dyed Easter eggs last night.  My brother, Kelly and Hailey came over.  It was a lot of fun.  I have to say that Maria made me very nervous with all the coffee cups full of egg dye, but she did a great job! No spills or stains on her clothes...so I guess it was a success.
  • It got up to 83 degrees in our house (87 outside) yesterday!!! Hello??? What happened to Spring??  We are trying so hard NOT to turn the AC on yet, it is only April, after all!  As long as it doesn't get humid, I think I can handle it. But, we'll see!
  • I am very excited for Easter this year.  One reason in particular is because I got the girls MATCHING Easter dresses.  Yes, I know they aren't twins...and I've never dressed them alike before.  But the dresses were so cute and I think Maria will get a kick out of her and Naomi matching!  And, to top it off...I bought the dresses at Wal-Mart for $7.50 a piece!!! They even came with little sweaters so I don't have to buy those!  I can't wait to see them all dressed up!
  • Maria spent most of Wednesday morning wearing "big girl underwear."  Needless to say, I spent the morning cleaning the floors!  So frustrating! She got mad when I put a diaper back on her, but she doesn't want to sit on the potty so I'm not going to keep pushing.  Plus, I hate following her around hoping she doesn't pee on the couches or her bed, etc! Everyone keeps saying "Oh just wait to until the weather is warm and try it."  Okay, weather is warm now! That doesn't make her want to try any harder....and warm or cold outside, I still have to clean up the floor after she pees on it!
  • Last weekend, Gerry and I bought a Flip Video Camera.  It's pretty cool.  I've been playing around with the software...trying to be creative and make movies with it!  Stay tuned...I've got some cute ones in the making!
  • I am excited to have Gerry's family over for brunch tomorrow morning!  I love brunch.  It's such a great meal.  On Sunday, we are going to church and then going to my brother's in the afternoon.  Fun times!  Maria can't wait for the Eater Bunny!
  • I hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed Easter weekend!  While you are with your families, opening baskets, eating candy, looking for eggs...don't forget the real and true reason we celebrate!  We celebrate because Jesus died on a cross, for our sins and rose from the DEAD so that we can go to heaven!
  • I've included this sobering video in case you needed a visual! Happy Easter!

Graduation Day! --Where's my cap and gown???

It's official! I found out today that I have graduated from seeing the dermatologist every 3 months to only seeing him every 6 months!  Whoo hoo!!!  Or as Maria would say "Yippee Skippee!!!"  I am celebrating and praising God!

For the past 2 years I have been going religiously every 3 months.  Since that dreadful diagnosis, I have had 9 suspicious looking spots/freckles/moles removed.  (call them what you want...it's not glamorous...just annoying!)   All of them have been cancer free!

I will continue to see the oncologist in the summer and winter and the dermatologist in the spring and fall!
